Nope, the stuff in the shrines are all pretty simple so far (I've done maybe 95-ish shrines), and the solutions are all pretty obvious since the necessary pieces are always laying nearby. I can't wait to see all the interesting challenges they throw at me. Ok, but I've got this neat Ultrahand ability that works surprisingly well. So they took the system that a lot of people hated from BotW (I didn't mind it that much, honestly), and the big change they made was to add an extra step. Ok, but at least there's this interesting Fuse mechanic that should give all this interesting depth to combat, right? Nope, it's super easy to just fuse the strongest thing you've got to the strongest base weapon you've got and just mindlessly whack away at almost everything. Ok, but they have to have done some dungeon improvements after all the complaints people had about BotW, right? Nope, still only 4, in the exact same areas, and this time without the interesting divine beast 'do something that can affect the whole dungeon' mechanic. Nope, just a bunch of nondescript gray and red with really no interesting landmarks to speak of. Maybe the interesting stuff will be down here. Nope, just a bunch of repetitive random caves with the same reward at the end of most of them.īut oh, there's the depths! Cool, a whole other layer to explore that I didn't even know about (stayed away from most of the pre-launch stuff). I figured there'd at least be countless interesting changes to the overworld, but nope, pretty much the same, and I didn't find the changes that were there to be all that interesting.īut hey, they added caves, that's cool, maybe there will be some interesting ones to explore. I was digging the general look and feel, and couldn't wait to explore the rest of the islands that I was expecting would be as interesting. I was hopeful at first when doing the tutorial island. The problem here is that those tedious side quests are a lot harder to stomach since the main game isn't at all meaty. It's always just been there, I might mess around with it if it seems fun or if there's an obviously decent reward attached, but otherwise it's fine to ignore it and progress with the meaty main game. I've never found the side stuff in any Zelda game to be all that engaging.
